The Motherboard (The Backbone of the Computer)

The motherboard (also known as the "Mainboard" or "Mobo") is the primary printed circuit board (PCB) inside a computer. It is the physical platform where every other component connects

Think of the motherboard as a massive communication network. It provides the electrical connections that allow the CPU (brain), RAM (short-term memory), and Hard Drive (storage) to "talk" to each other and receive power from the PSU (Power Supply Unit).

 If the CPU is the Mayor and the RAM is the office workspace, the 

 connecting them. Without the roads, the Mayor (CPU) cannot send instructions to the workers, and the city stops functioning.

. The CPU is the brain, but the motherboard represents the nerves that carry the signals from the brain to the hands (mouse) and eyes (monitor).

B. Motherboard Components (Layout Identification)

1. CPU Socket (The Home of the Processor)

Use a "Map Legend" approach. Draw a rough square on the whiteboard and place the components in their general areas (CPU top middle, RAM top right, PCIe bottom) to help students visualize the standard layout.

C. Expansion Slots (Upgrading the System)

These are slots that allow us to "expand" the computer's capabilities. If we want better graphics, better sound, or Wi-Fi, we plug cards into these slots.

The chipset is the silicon "manager" on the motherboard. While the CPU does the heavy thinking, the Chipset handles the logistics.

The chipset determines the "personality" and limits of the motherboard:

Place 3-4 motherboards on tables. Divide students into small groups.

The block diagram below shows how the CPU communicates with high-speed components (like RAM and PCIe x16 graphics) directly or via the Northbridge, while slower components connect through the Southbridge part of the chipset.
